Sven Markelius (1889–1972) was one of the most important Functionalist (Modernist) Swedish architects. Highlights in Markelius’ life work include participation in the modernist section of the 1930 Stockholm International Exhibition, the world famous Vällingby city plan, Helsingborg Concert Hall and membership of the board of design consultants for the United Nations Secretariat Building in New York together with architects Le Corbusier and Oscar Niemeyer.
